Mumbai: Ethiopian Airlines marked the International Women’s Day with an all-women crew operated flight to Buenos Aires, Argentina, with the state-of-the-art and comfortable B787 aircraft. The flag carrier linked Buenos Aires, the world’s capital of Tango and home of centurion old buildings and a vibrant cultural scene, with Africa.

On the occasion, Tewolde GebreMariam, CEO, Ethiopian Group, said, “Today we are connecting what seemingly looks like faraway places: Africa and Argentina. The move is in line with our ‘vision 2025’. The flight will generate tourism, people to people connections, and trade and investment. Ethiopian Airlines is a global integrator connecting these nations not only with countries in Africa but also in Asia.”

“This all-women operated flight is going to inspire young girls in schools in Africa and the rest of the world to dream about a bright future and hope to become pilots, CEO’s, technicians, engineers etc. The opportunity is there, and we will support them.”
Gustavo Teodoro Grippo, the Argentinian Ambassador to Ethiopia, said, “Ethiopian Airlines debut flight to Buenos Aires has developed a platform to develop a partnership between Argentina and Ethiopia on tourism, culture, business, economic growth and sports among other sectors. This flight builds a bridge between Africa and Latin America that will strengthen relations between the two continental regions.”

Dr. Aklilu Hailemichael, State Minister for Foreign Affairs, said, “The continued growth of Ethiopian Airlines led to the flourishing of bilateral and multilateral diplomatic relations in the global arena. The impressive achievements of the airline are part of the many successful multifaceted development plans aimed at realising the national vision of becoming a middle-income country by 2025.” On the occasion, Ethiopian announced Athlete Tirunesh Dibaba, a three-time Olympic Gold Medallist, as its Brand Ambassador. It is to be recalled that Ethiopian pioneered an all-women functioned flight in 2015 on the Addis Ababa – Bangkok route.
