Mumbai: Iceland’s low fare transatlantic carrier, WOW Air, has announced its first Asian foray into Delhi from its hub in Keflavik, Iceland, starting December 7, 2018. The airline will start with five flights a week deploying their brand new A 330 neo aircraft offering 365 seats on an average one-way.

Announcing the opening of the direct route to India, Skuli Mogensen, Founder & CEO, Wow Air, said, “New Delhi is the first destination that the airline is opening in Asia as there is more opportunity here considering the route offers superior flight path to North America through its hub in Iceland.”

With an eye on the growing India to North America travel numbers, the airline has announced a lowest introductory WOW basic fare of Rs.13,499 inclusive of taxes (excluding check-in baggage and meals) to North America destinations through Keflavik. WOW connects 15 destinations in North America through its hub in Keflavik. The airline offers four fare options of WOW Basic, WOW Plus, WOW Comfy, and WOW Premium.

“Subject to availability of flights we intend to increase the frequency to daily sooner than later. Objective is to add more cities in India. We see India as a big opportunity. Around 20,000 people travel between India and North America daily with one or two stoppages. It is most underserved market.”

On the secret of the lowest fare offering, Mogensen said, “WOW has the youngest fleet with an average age of two years. Therefore, we are able to operate with operational efficiency. WOW is just not an airline partner for customers but a travel partner for customers providing hotels, car rentals, tour recommendations, restaurant recommendations, etc.”

He said that more the customer buy on the travel cart will be incentivised by a lower fare. “In distribution, the primary channel will always remain online, but we will work with Bird Group in India to explore varied channels.”
