Chennai: PROMPERU- Commission for the Promotion of Trade, Tourism and Investments for Peru in India, visited Chennai for the first time to conduct a tourism seminar to stimulate the favourable growth in arrivals from the city. Owing to the increase in interest from Chennai and substantial rise in footfalls, the objective of the visit was to carry out a destination training, sharing essential data with the operators and agencies, in addition to understanding the specific requirements of the market.
The seminar witnessed the presence of Luis Cabello, Trade and Tourism Counsellor of Peru in India and Aromica Bhattacharya, Specialist in Tourism. During the assembly, the spokesperson shared insights on the lesser-known attractions, thus highlighting ‘Peru Beyond Machu Picchu’ which will entice more travellers from India. The team, during its course of interaction, also shared that in 2018, the total numbers from India were 8 742, representing a 21% year-on year increase. This year too, the numbers have been extremely promising, though the final growth rate for the year 2019 will be known in the coming weeks.
The tourism board is further expanding its reach into the luxury segment and sub-segments such as honeymooners, history lovers. Adventure is another segment which has been growing exponentially, reflected in the fact that the readers and followers of the prestigious magazine Travel+Leisure´s India recently recognised Peru as the Best Adventure Destination 2019 in their annual India´s Best Awards. Finally, they will also be strategically foraying into the lucrative wedding destination segment, while also promoting specialised gastronomical tours in Peru.
The Commercial Office of Peru in India, adscribed to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism of Peru (MINCETUR), is now an official extension of PROMPERU- Commission for the Promotion of Trade, Tourism and Investments for Peru in India, known as the PROMPERU India office.
