New Delhi: The Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) grew by 10.1 per cent in February 2018, compared to the same month last year, the data released by Ministry of Tourism stated. The Ministry compiles monthly estimates of FTAs and FTAs on e-tourist visa on the basis of nationality-wise and port-wise data received from Bureau of Immigration (BOI). The following are the important highlights for February:

Foreign Tourist Arrivals

  • The number of FTAs in February 2018 was 10.53 lakh as compared to 9.56 lakh in February 2017.
  • The growth rate of FTAs in February 2018 over the same period in 2017 was 10.1 per cent, compared to 12.7 per cent in February 2017.
  • FTAs for the period January – February 2018 was 21.19 lakh (9.2 per cent growth) as compared to 19.40 lakh (14.6 per cent growth) in January- February 2017.

The percentage share of FTAs in India during February 2018 among the top 15 source countries was highest from Bangladesh (18.28 pc) followed by USA (12.40 pc), UK (11.75 pc), Canada (4.36 pc), Russia (4.20 pc), France (3.24 pc) and Malaysia (3.14 pc).

FTAs on e-tourist Visa

  • During February 2018, a total of 2.76 lakh foreign tourists arrived on an e-tourist visa as compared to 1.70 lakh for the same month in 2017, registering a growth of 62.0 per cent.
  • During January- February 2018, a total of 5.16 lakh tourist arrived on an e-tourist visa as compared to 3.22 lakh during January-February 2017, registering a growth of 60.3 per cent.
