Mumbai: Department of Tourism, Government of Rajasthan, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism of Rajasthan (FHTR) for organising the ‘Rajasthan Domestic Travel Mart’ 2018. The event will be held on July 20 and 22 at the B M Birla Auditorium in Jaipur.

The MoU was signed between the Sanjay Pande, Additional Director Tourism and Bhim Singh, President, FHTR, at an event held at Hotel ITC Rajputana, Sheraton, Jaipur, in the presence of Nihal Chand Goel, Chief Secretary of Rajasthan.

On the occasion, Goel said, “The primary objective of ‘Rajasthan Domestic Travel Mart’ is to exclusively focus on the domestic tourists from various parts of India and establish Rajasthan as one of the leading domestic tourist destinations in the country. The ‘Vision 2020’, initiated by the Chief Minister, aims to achieve 5 crore tourist footfall by 2020. But the State has already attained close to 5 crore tourists in 2017 itself and with new initiatives like this, the State intends to achieve the set goal and probably outperform our own predicted numbers, he said.

Subodh Agarwal, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Tourism, who was the guest of honour, said, “A travel mart for domestic tourism is a first in Rajasthan and second in India. Around 15 per cent of the total State GDP is through tourism.” Bhim Sing added, “To promote the event, FHTR will organise promotional shows across the State in the coming months.”
