Dubai: Abu Dhabi Food Festival, organised by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), saw the breaking of a world record yesterday at Al Bahar, Corniche, as part of the World of Food Abu Dhabi event. A chicken ‘margougah’ weighing in at 4,775kg was cooked up, which beat the previous world record for the world’s largest meat stew by 695kg.

The preparation of this record-breaking dish was part of the annual Abu Dhabi Food Festival, with the record attempt sponsored by Etihad Airways, and hosted at the national carrier’s catering facilities in Al Ain.

Etihad Airways also supported the cooking process of the dish by sending 20 support chefs. Cooking began at 8am and it wasn’t until 2:30pm that preparations were complete and the award was officially confirmed by an adjudicator from Guinness World Records. Hundreds of visitors were on hand to witness history being made with portions given to the public to sample. The remaining margougah was shared with the Red Crescent charity.

Saturday’s world record attempt was part of the ongoing Abu Dhabi Food Festival, which attracts both residents and visitors alike to the emirate to enjoy not only flavourful cuisines from some of the best chefs from around the globe, but also some of the best food-related experiences available anywhere, with the event confirming Abu Dhabi’s position as an international hub for culinary inspiration.
