Mumbai: According to newspaper sources, Turkish Airlines is on expansion mode in India with direct flights in the offing to Chennai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Amritsar and Bengaluru. Operations to Mumbai and Delhi are also planned to be doubled. The airlines is said to have formally proposed the same to the Civil Aviation Ministry.

The airlines now has direct flights from Istanbul to Mumbai and New Delhi. This is apart from code-share flights from Mumbai and Delhi to Chennai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Amritsar.

Of the airlines’ fleet of 33 Boeing 777 aircraft, three are 400 seaters, used for Indian routes. A source added that the airline wants to take its flying frequency from the current 14 times a week to 70 times. Turkish Airlines did not comment.
